I Spilled Coffee on the Carpet
Hurry Grab the Hydrogen Peroxide, Soap, and Vinegar!
Have you searched the internet on how to remove stains from you carpet? Some of those instructions out there are quite complex and time consuming (ex. "wait 4 hours and revisit the stain...") and require items you don't even know where to find ("honey, do we have any hydrogen peroxide?"). I like the school of thought of KISS (Keep it simple silly).
It's Sunday morning and you're relaxing on your couch with a nice warm cup of coffee, all of a sudden the dog runs in and catches you off guard and you spill your cup of coffee on the carpet! What are you going to do!?
Items needed: Clean mug (pot, pan, anything really that will hold hot water) Hot water 1 Clean White Towel Something Heavy (Phone book, Text book, Car, Boat (okay maybe not a text book, just kidding))
What to do: 1. DO NOT TRY TO SOAK UP THE STAIN WITH A TOWEL YET! Instinct will instruct you to throw a towel or tissue on the stain, DON'T! 2. Grab a clean mug and take it to the sink and fill it up with warm to hot water 3. Grab a towel 4. Pour the warm/hot water on the coffee stain. Don't over saturate it, but enough to cover the entire stain. 5. You will see that the coffee actually lifts up and mixes with the clean water, NOW you can dab the towel to collect as much water as possible
And there you have it! The easy way to take care of spilled coffee.
This method actually works on a lot of other stains too. Make sure you know if your carpet is water safe (wool does not like carpet, that's why sheep run for shelter when it rains (I made that up... the sheep part, not the wool part).
If you have any pre-existing coffee stains, call up a trusted carpet cleaning professional and have them do the dirty work. Call up a few and make sure that the price they quote you includes getting rid of the stain (you would be amazed by how many money hungry carpet cleaners will tell you that "stains are extra"! Since when did they start charging by the stain?!). Also make sure that they are accredited by the Better Business Bureau, this adds that extra layer of comfort knowing that you are not inviting into your home a true professional and not some "fly by night" carpet cleaner. Also, make sure that the price they quote over the phone is the price you pay! Don't go with a carpet cleaner who states they have to "see" the carpet!
